In most infrastructure projects, the story ends when construction is complete. At WERP's solar irrigation sites, that is when the real work begins.

The usual pattern is familiar: systems are built, handed over, and communities are left to manage them alone. When something breaks, there is no one to call. WERP was designed to break that pattern.

Under the project's Energy-as-a-Service model, Private Energy Service Companies (PESCs) remain responsible long after the solar-powered irrigation systems are installed. They operate, maintain, monitor and repair the systems — ensuring farmers receive reliable irrigation water, season after season.

For Merit Empire Construction, one of WERP's PESC partners, this is more than a contract. It is a lasting partnership with the communities it serves. The company carries out regular inspections, preventive maintenance and timely repairs, monitors system performance, and keeps essential spare parts in stock so that every system runs at its best.

A Partnership That Lasts

Skills that stay in the village. Local operators and water users are trained to run the systems safely and to recognize small problems before they grow into serious ones. This transfer of knowledge means the community itself becomes part of the system's protection, expertise that remains in the village long after the technicians have gone home.

Support within reach. A clear maintenance and reporting system connects farmers directly to help. Through designated focal points and a dedicated phone line, communities can request technical support at any time. With trained technicians nearby and spare parts readily available, issues are resolved quickly, keeping interruptions to a minimum and water flowing to the fields when crops need it most.

Trust, maintained like equipment. Building trust matters as much as servicing machinery. Through consultations, awareness sessions and practical training, the company works side by side with farmers, listening to their feedback and responding to local needs. The result is a shared sense of ownership that protects the systems and secures their future..
